Reviews for my crime novel By the Light of a Lie are rolling in and mercifully positive. Small plea. If you
read it – amazon kindle or paperback – and like it, then a review would be
gratefully received by me on amazon.com/uk and goodreads since it all helps.
“A real roller coaster adventure, set at a wonderful pace, full of
intriguing connections and ideas. It will make a fantastic film.”
“I really loved this book and
kept wanting to go back to it, so finished it in two days. I just hope she’s
going to write some more with the same heroine.”
“It rattles along, and every revelation ratchets the tension up. I finished it in a day. Thane and Calder 2 soon please.”
“ A page
turner, set at a wonderful pace, full of intriguing connections and ideas.
The two main characters kept my interest throughout, I wanted to be with
them. A marvellous job with the main theme - corruption of power and the
determination step by step to challenge and win through. Great human
stories and the astrology is subtle and the use of the birds really great, as
well as Herk's scepticism. Clever use of countries! It will make a
fantastic film.” Liz McCormick.
“I
really loved this book and kept wanting to go back to it, so finished it in two
days. The heroine Tire is feisty and fearless, and her male supporter, Herk
(short for Hercules) is a bit like a Lee Child hero, good in a tight spot,
appreciates intelligent women (he likes her ‘lovely smile’ rather than any
baser part of her anatomy) and eats huge breakfasts whenever he can. The plot
is exciting and believable. Several things make this thriller a bit different ~
the serious treatment of astrology and in particular the astrology of countries.
As with Morse, her main character likes to listen to classical music, to help
her brain mull over intricacies of the investigation. It’s well written and
very pacey. I just hope she’s going to write some more with the same heroine.”
Judy Byrne.
“This is not a story where guilt is revealed through
innocuous-seeming clues embedded in everyday life. This is grand guignol:
families are eaten away by unimaginable villainy over generations; the mighty,
it is not giving anything away to tell you since the suspects are pretty much
all mighty, fall. In fact, there’s a lot about families: the sins of the father
and so on. Most importantly, it is a page turner. It rattles along, and every
revelation ratchets the tension up. I finished it in a day. Thane and Calder 2
soon please.” Astrolpho.
“For a first novel, this is a
star. It combines murder, intrigue, even a hint of romance. It's fast moving and exhilarating and keeps you guessing from
one chapter to the next. Unlike a lot of murderer mystery novels it's not too
dark and still has an element of humour to it, which along with the fast
pace of the chase leaves you feeling up beat rather than depressed. Is this the
new female "James Bond"? Looking forward to the next Thane and Calder mystery.” Linda Clegg.
“Has
pace, style, intrigue and a cast of villains that makes your toes curl.
Marjorie Orr has written a first-class thriller with two quirky protagonists,
Tire Thane and Herk Calder, who I hope we will meet again. I loved the
travelogues, whether they took me through much loved streets and parks of London
or the savage beauty of Monterey, California. And I also loved the astrological
references which gave such insight into the characters and the potential
dangers facing Thane and Calder. I won’t spoil the ending for you, but I will
say if you are familiar with Richard Strauss’s Elektra the last few pages will
give you goosebumps.” Penny Thornton.
“So
fast paced, I was enthralled. Only took me a few sittings to devour the whole
book! Loved the elements of dark humour and really liked the two main
characters. Looking forward to future books, especially with these characters.”
